Senior western isles councillors out of control

The Scottish Government has launched proposals to ensure that vital power cable connections to island communities including the Outer Hebrides are safeguarded and protected from damage and disruption; to minimise the risk of cable damage such as that suffered in recent years, by the community of Tiree.

CnES, through 2 of its committee chairmen, has taken the bizarre position of condemning the proposals to safeguard these submarine cables critical to the wellbeing of our islands. As exemplified through the Road Equivalent Tariff principle, the Scottish Government and the council's SNP group consider the Outer Hebrides is part of the nation and as such is entitled to equivalent standards and service protection.

The "better together" pair should lobby the Westminster institution they advocated should continue ruling us, to abolish surcharging on peripheral areas such as the Outer Hebrides.

SNP group Leader Donald Manford commented; These increasingly deranged sounding outbursts from Labour activists, masquerading as Independent councillors, are undermining the credibility of the council.
