Budget 2014 - Independent Labour administration in the Western Isles moves to the right and cuts union representation

In an absolutely astonishing move by the Western Isles Independent / Labour administration, the union representation was cut to in order to make savings.

This will place strong union representation in jeopardy.

SNP Councillor Gordon Murray stated:

"At a time when cuts from Westminster are really hurtng our communities, we really need a strong voice representing employees and we need to protect the trade unions. It is heartbreaking to see this administration cut the trade union representation.

"I know a few councillors have been involved in varying degrees with unions and thought they would have agreed with me that the union is hugely important in protecting workers rights - do we really want to be giving the message that Comhairle nan Eilean is cutting union representation so much, surely not."
