Living Wage campaign success for SNP Group !

At Policy and resources meeting on 11th Febvruary 2015, the council agreed with the SNP Group for the backdating of the Living Wage to 2013.

The Western Isles Council SNP Group, who had been campaigning for the Living Wage for over a year, had previously put forward an amendment to pay the Living Wage from 2013 which was rejected by councillors but supported by Councillor Neil Beaton.

Commenting on the news, Stornoway North Councillor Gordon Murray stated: "This is fantastic news and I welcome the council's decision to backdate the Living Wage from 2013. This will give a big morale boost to our lowest paid workers at a time when it is most needed as well as helping with increasing household budget pressures. Absolutely delighted!"
