SNP support offshore workers

The plight of offshore workers and their travel to and from the Outer Hebrides was raised again by SNP councillors Kenny Macleod and Gordon Murray at the Transportation Committee meeting on 4th September.

Cllr Macleod commented "
I was pleased to be given the opportunity at this weeks meeting of the transportation committee to raise the issue of the stornoway to Aberdeen flights operated by eastern airways. This has been an ongoing issue as the timings and frequency of the daily flights do not suit the many islanders that work in the oil industry. I am equally delighted that the comhairle will once again open dialogue with the company to see if there is a way round these problems.

Cllr Murray added " I am glad that Cllr Kenny McLeod raised this issue at the transportation committee yesterday. I have had a number of  representations from oil workers regarding this. The contribution made by offshore workers to the islands is immense and we should be doing our best to support them."

After representations by Cllr Macleod and Murray the decision of the committee was for the Director to write to Eastern Airways raising the concerns of the oil workers.
