NEW MALLAIG TO FORT WILLIAM BUS TO DOVETAIL WITH LOCHBOISDALE SAILING

The new Lochboisdale to Mallaig ferry is to have a new bus service to meet the ferry and to whisk passengers from the pier in response to the new ferry service following discussions initially between Angus MacNeil MP and Shiel buses, with Highland Council also coming on board with hoped for vital support.

Commenting Angus MacNeil MP said:

"There has been a tremendous response from the Mallaig side to ensure the new ferry route is a success and that the bus and ferry fit as conveniently as possible for the traveller.

“I approached David and Donnie MacGillivray of Shiel Buses, Acharacle, following prompting from the Lochboisdale Amenity Trust.  Shiel Buses were keen to trial a bus route to support the new ferry route to get passengers back and forward to Fort William with minimum wasted time between ferry and bus for the two sailings between Lochboisdale and Mallaig on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

“The route shall hopefully receive some support from Highland Council and I d like to thank Mallaig Councillor Alan Henderson being very supportive, the Lochaber Area Committee as well as SNP Highland Council Leader Cllr Drew Hendry who has also been supportive of the idea and to Shiel buses for working with me initially.

“I am delighted that we have managed to secure this route for its support in Lochaber which in the majority of cases will dovetail quite well with onwards bus travel to Glasgow, Edinburgh, Oban or Inverness."
