Should the council hold at least one meeting a year down in Uist and Barra?
This question was asked at Policy and Resources committee meeting on the 28th November by SNP Councillor Gordon Murray.
Councillor Murray commented "One of the things that struck me during the Scottish Government Public Petitions committee, looking at the Inter island air services, was the fact that this was an example of the Scottish Government holding its business in peripheral areas of the country - bring power to local people and communities engaging. As we (CnES) have over 20% of its members from the Uists and Barra, should we not be holding at least one full council meeting a year down in the Southern Isles?"
The question was put to the council administration during the Policy and Resource committee of 28th November under the report on the "Commission on strengthening local democracy".
Prompted by this, the chief executive promised to look into the costs of such a proposal.
