As confirmed to me by Ofgem this week, electricity prices are not regulated and set by suppliers operating in the competitive market. I wax happy to see the option of the ESCo setting up to be a fully licensed supply company was to be explored by the Comhairle.
This option would allow an opportunity for the ESCo to supply "cost price" electricity to households in the Western Isles.
Would he agree with me that supplying cost price electricity would substantially address fuel poverty and would he commit to fully exploring this option, a route many local authorities are raking with advice and guidance from Ofgem, and for a report to come back at the next series on this issue?
