Follow up letter to council leader on chamber refurbishment

Dear Roddie,

The SNP group are disappointed that you have not responded to the previous letter with regards to the refurbishment of the council chamber.

As stated in the letter to you dated 24th October 2019, services are facing uncertainty and that this is hardly the time to be spending money on the refurbishment of the council chamber. In recent discussions at your budget board meeting, services that are facing uncertainty are the provision of additional support needs, childcare grants, play areas, sports facilities, school meals services, citizens advice service, charitable rates and the care and repair service.

It would be sad to see the refurbishment of a chamber’s seating at a considerable cost to be prioritized over and above the reduction of those services and more.

We would urge you and the Chairs group to reconsider this matter and defer any refurbishment in these difficult financial times and use the money to save some of these very important services.

This must be brought back to the chamber in the form of an urgent report.

We look forward to your thoughts on this matter,

Signed,

Cllr Gordon Murray
Cllr Calum Macmillan
Cllr John Mitchell
Cllr Kenny Macleod
Cllr Rae MacKenzie
Cllr John A Maciver
