As the council political administration reviews the responses in the latest Community Conversations, the support for the replacement of the mobile library vans is being voiced by the community.
Harris and South Lochs SNP councillor John Mitchell is leading the charge planning to save the vans next week in spite of the council’s attempts to kill the service.
Rural councillors, seeing the huge value the vans have in addressing social isolation issues, are lining up behind Mitchell to support his campaign.
Much more so than in Uist and Barra where vans are of utmost importance. Councillors have spoken of their fear that such an integral part of life will be taken away and so the vote at full council is seen as the way to secure the vans finally.
“If the vans were valued by the council leader and his chairs, they would have been replaced by now and this constant procrastination is the slow death that rural councillors fear.”
Representations strongly in favour of the vans have been coming from Point where those with mobility issues fear the service will disappear if local councillors don’t support it.
Full council is at 5pm on 12th December.
