SNP Group push to prevent use of crofts for care home charges

The SNP Group at Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are ensuring the issue of using crofts for care home charges is top of the agenda at next week's first ever virtual meeting of the full council.

The SNP Group are putting forward an amendment which would safeguard the future of crofting in the Outer Hebrides.
They are urging communities to contact their own councillor to support the SNP amendment.
The Comhairle's recommendations for approval at next week's meeting states that the Comhairle could enforce payment of care charges against croft property.
To date the Comhairle has not sought to enforce payment of care but next week's recommendation could allow this to happen.
The SNP's amendment states: “That the Comhairle suspend any ongoing action including future actions in respect of  taking Croft property into consideration when making financial assessments for care charges until such time as the six points on the special Comhairle meeting request have been answered.”
