Trade Union funding restored

The SNP Group at the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar welcomed another u-turn by the ruling council administration who restored funding to the trade unions on Thursday.

Only two and a half months ago, the SNP Group argued to protect the union representation from any cuts given the real need for employee representation at this time of Westminster austerity and attacks on public funding. This was following on from the previous year where the SNP Group had tried to stop the council administration cutting the employee representatives and at both budget setting meetings, the council administration brushed off our warnings and voted to cut regardless.

The group celebrated the fact that common sense had prevailed with the restoration of funding to the unions.

In a current trend, the council administration seem to oppose the SNP's proposals and then after several months reverse their original decisions and follow what the SNP Group had originally put forward.

The group look forward to see how this and other u-turns will be reported in the local media.
